Does the thought of an upcoming dentist appointment result in anxiousness? Has anxiety prevented you from receiving the preventive dental care necessary to maintain oral health?
Dr. Goris and the staff of Beautiful Smiles in Greenwood welcome patients who experience anxiety when it comes to any aspect of their dental care. They offer a variety of "relaxation" options and will work with patients to find that which will enable them to feel calm, confident and relaxed during their dental treatment.
Relaxation Dentistry Options
Dr. Goris will take the time to help patients identify the cause of their dental anxiety, offering tips and strategies for relaxation that can enable patients to maintain their dental health as well as achieve the smiles they have always wanted. A healthy, functional smile is an important part of overall quality of life.
- Topical & Local Anesthesia: a topical solution is used to ‘pre-numbs’ the injection area and local anesthesia is used to completely numb the area being treated. This temporarily blocks feeling to the nerve and should last one to two hours or longer.
- Nitrous Oxide Gas: nitrous oxide gas (laughing gas) is often the first and best option for dental phobic patients. Patients are in control of their bodily functions and can respond to the staff, but are completely relaxed and most likely will not remember their treatment.
- Oral Conscious Sedation: oral conscious sedation is a pill form of sedation that allows patients to remain in control of their bodily functions and responsive while feeling relaxed and calm throughout their treatment. Most patients will have no memory of their dental procedure.
