Why Replace Missing Teeth?

Having missing teeth can be embarrassing and harmful to your oral health. Even just one missing tooth can cause your teeth to shift and your face to look older. It can also affect your smile and your ability to eat certain foods. The way you look and feel about your appearance can have negative consequences on your life. When you’re missing teeth, bone loss and an unbalanced bite will occur. An unbalanced bite will lead to TMJ symptoms. Dental implants are the most natural looking and permanent solution to tooth loss.

The Dental Implant Process

Dr. Goris offers complete treatment for dental implants in his Indianapolis, IN dentist office. Dr. Goris will personally perform the tooth implant surgery as well as the restoration with a dental crown, bridge or dentures. The procedure for dental implants requires multiple visits over several months. After the comprehensive evaluation, he will create a personalized treatment plan.

Placing the Implant – Metal anchors and small posts are surgically placed into your jawbone to serve as tooth root substitutes. The dental implants will be allowed to heal and integrate with the natural bone, serving as the stable anchors for the new teeth. The healing process can takes about three to six months. Depending on your case and the position of the missing tooth or teeth, a temporary crown may be placed in the mouth while the implant heals.

Restoring the Dental Implant – Once the jaw fuses with the posts, Dr. Goris will restore the dental implant by placing the dental restoration (dental crown, dental bridge, or denture). While the dental implant is healing, Dr. Goris will begin making your new teeth. He’ll take a dental impression and attach posts or attachments to the implants to secure your crowns or prosthetic. Then the prosthetic is secured to the dental implant for a permanent restoration.
