Teeth Whitening What to Expect

There are many over-the-counter options for teeth whitening including whiting toothpaste, whitening strips, and gels. For patients who want the best results, professional treatment is still the best choice.

Dr. Stevens offers teeth whitening systems with custom-fit trays to ensure even whitening of your teeth. In addition, our products are specially formulated to reduce tooth sensitivity, a common side effect of whitening.

Take-Home Whitening Kit

The professional take-home kit includes custom bleaching trays that provide an even distribution of the bleaching agent and reduce irritation of the gums.

Dr. Stevens will give specific instructions for daily wear and most patients will see results within a few days, with treatment lasting up to 2 weeks. Periodic touch-ups, combined with good oral hygiene, can help to maintain results.

Zoom Teeth Whitening

For in-office whitening, we recommend patients start with a cleaning. Next, we prepare the mouth for the whitening procedure by isolating the lips and gums. The proprietary Zoom Whitening gel is applied to the teeth, which is activated by a specially designed light.

Teeth typically become at least six to ten shades whiter – sometimes more! A five-minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure. You will be amazed by the results. In most cases, your teeth will continue to whiten in the first few days following the procedure.

Other Whitening Solutions

Certain discoloration can’t be treated with professional teeth whitening. Deeper stains caused by medication and teeth discolored because of trauma don’t respond to traditional whitening techniques. We offer other treatment options to help these patients get the whiter smile they’re searching for.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of dental ceramic that go over the front and sides of your teeth, completely covering the discolored tooth. We can color-match them to blend in with your smile or to match whatever shade of white you desire. These are permanently bonded to your teeth and you can smile with confidence.
